Sasso della Gallina (CH) - 1 630 meters

Nr 64

Sixth one of todays 10 peaks hike (Camusio-Cima Torrione-Motto Rotondo-Monte Gradiccioli-Monte Pola-Sasso della Gallina-Monte Magno-Monte Magino-Zottone-Poncione di Breno).

We walked (down) 20 minutes to this peak (listed at page 478 in the official guides of the Swiss Alpine Club; vol 5. Guida delle prealpi Ticinesi) from Monte Pola.

The Sasso della Gallina is not on the path of the famous Tamaro-Lema hike, it's more some kind of smaller side peak and basically "the shoulder" of Monte Pola. Only when seen from below (from the Italian valley Valle d'Indemini) one understands why this one is listed as an official side-peak as it appears as a bigger Rock with prominence from above it's actually not so clear.

We had our lunch break on this peak today as we were completely on our own and had a beautiful view of Lago Maggiore.

I would not recommend to visit this peak if not for hunting-glory as from Monte Pola you basically have the same view and are higher up.

Level: T2+ (the path is not clearly visible and it's pretty steep to walk down/up there, having said that it's not enough for a T3).
