Poncione Garioi (ch) - 2 386 meters

Nr 88

This is the 80th peak in Ticino.

The peak is listed at page 209 of the 3rd Book of the CAS Guides about the Ticino-Region (Dal Passo del san Gottardo al Pizzo di Claro), and was the second one of today's honeymoon hike (Pizzo Taneda-Poncione Garioi) we organised for Katrin's mother and her new husband Feitl.

Even my mother decided to come with us today, having said that, on the peaks it was only me, Katrin and Feitl as our mothers decided that the walk to the Cadlimo hut is enough action for the day for them.

This mountain is divided in two different peaks where it's actually the smaller one to be the name-giver. This comes because from the Piora Valley it's the one which can be clearly seen even if the second peak behind is 45 meters higher.

To ensure we have "seen it all", we walked up on both of them and began with the higher one where we also encountered some chamois (picture nr.12), then we just walked over on the exposed ridge which can be seen on picture nr.17 to the other peak.

Even if Poncione Garioi isn't famous at all and I would bet most of the people walking up to the Cadlimo hut never even thought about coming here, I can ensure that it was definitely worth it as it's also pretty easy to find your way up, you just need to go to your right when at the lower Taneda Lake instead of continuing with the normal path which goes towards the second Taneda lake.
