Pizzo del Corvo (CH) - 3 015 meters

Nr 22

First summit of the day (out of  2, second one was Piz Scopì).

Pizzo del Corvo is the 41th-highest Mountain of the canton Ticino and my first one above 3'000 meters!

This peak has different possibilities for an ascent.

We chose a path (nr. 400) which comes from the Passo del Lucomagno directly up to the top of Piz Scopì (therefore from the Western side).

To arrive on top of Pizzo del Corvo, we had to walk through an off-path traverse to reach the beautiful ridge (which is shown in the pics 1-3-6). This traverse starts 200 meters under the summit of Piz Scopì, with really craggy ground which generated little landslides basically at every step (5th picture).

This traverse is explained as number 411 in the official guides of the CAS (Swiss Alpine Club) at page 279 of the 3rd volume (Guida delle alpi ticinesi, dal Passo San Gottardo al Pizzo di Claro).

It was a challenging hike as there are more than 1000 meters of vertical climb and the extremely craggy ground made the ascend challenging from a physical standpoint.

There are a few exposed sections where you shouldn't be afraid of heights, in fact sometimes you need to use your hands and climb a bit.

This Peak is exactly on the border between the two cantons Ticino and Graubünden but the Summit is Part of the "Comune di Blenio" which is in Ticino and therefore is still located in the Italian speaking Part of Switzerland.

The whole mountain is also really interesting in terms of color of it's rocks as they are very dark, I'd even say almost completely black. While you are walking around on top (or in the last vertical 200 meters) you get a feeling of being on another planet or on some kind of volcano..

When standing on the summit, on the eastern side you get a nice view down to a little glacier (Glatscher da Casatscha).
