Pizzo dell'Uomo (CH) - 2 686 meters

Nr 92

Third, highest and last peak of the day (Winterhorn - Pizzo d'Orsirora - Pizzo dell'Uomo).

We walked over from Pizzo d'Orisora on paths 851 and 846 explained at pages 545-546 of the first Book of the CAS Guides about the Ticino-Region (Dal Gridone al Passo del San Gottardo). Of these two paths it's number 851 to be the one that in my eyes is worth a T4-, there is no clear route to follow even if some rocks have some yellow marks on it to help hikers during their way up. Also, hands have to be used a few times but never on exposed sections.

The peak itself is listed at page 544 of the same book.

Once again it has been confirmed that you should never trust the weather in the alps; and this goes both ways. In fact' in the morning the weather was really bad with almost zero visibility... you can see from the pictures below what happened afterwards!

The Peak itself is nothing special and is quite easily reachable from the Gotthard Pass, what is really nice around here are all the different-sized mountain lakes (2nd-3rd-6th-9th and 10th picture). There is so much water up here, that you really get why the call it "Water-castle of Europe".

Unfortunately I'm a bit worried that this could be the last higher peak of this summit-hiking season as it started snowing above 2000 meters already in September. Let's see..  for now we go surfing in Indonesia and will then check out the situation in October.

Level: T4- (a 4 due to the sometimes exposed ascent on solid rocks).
