Monte Orsa (IT) - 998 meters

Nr 42

This was the second peak in todays 2 summit hike (Poncione d'Arzo, Monte Orsa).

We basically just walked to it from North-East, on the ridge which connects this summit to Poncione d'Arzo following path 821, explained in the official guides of the CAS (Swiss Alpine Club) at page 538 of the 5th volume (Guida delle Prealpi ticinesi).

Interesting fact is that this mountain is listed in the Swiss Alpine Club's books even if completely located in Italy; I think that the reason for this is the close connection it has to the Poncione d'Arzo, located on the border, just 15 minutes away.

Even if this one doesn't sound that spectacular as a summit, it actually was from a historical point of view.. it's all, but not a normal traverse!

In fact, between the two peaks there are old trenches from the first world war which were build from the Italian army against the Austro-Hungarian empire. There are also a lot of tunnels and even an original cannon which makes the whole walk super interesting as (at least that's what I did) you can easily check out all this holes and tunnels in the ground getting a feeling of how it was back in the days when all of this was built.
