Monte Gambarogno (CH) - 1 734 meters

Nr 38

This was the first peak in todays 3 summit hike (Monte Gambarogno, Monte Paglione, Covreto).

We took the north-eastern route, coming up from Alpe di Neggia following paths 600 and 602, explained in the official guides of the CAS (Swiss Alpine Club) at pages 425-426 of the 5th volume (Guida delle Prealpi ticinesi).

Happy new year.. this is the first peak in 2017!!

We drove by car to Alpe di Neggia. From there we took the most direct way up to the top of this mountain. I would say we were up in more or less 45 minutes.

You basically have the choice between an easier path which goes around the summit or a harder and much steeper path which just goes up straight. As today was the 6th of January and the temperature never went above -3° we chose the "harder" way to warm up a bit.

Great views of the northern part of Lago maggiore, the Maggia-delta and the beginning of the Valle Maggia when standing on top (the summit is marked by some rocks, the smaller secondary peak has a nice big cross on it).

I think from a effort standpoint, this is probably the easiest summit so far when it comes to getting great views (of course when starting from Alpe di Neggia.. if we would have started at the bottom it's completely another story).
